The president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, said this Wednesday (21) that the instability at the top of the entity, with the judicialization of its mandate, does not harm Brazil’s candidacy to host the women’s World Cup in 2027.

The statement was given after the leader’s meeting with President Lula (PT), at Palácio do Planalto, in the presence of ministers André Fufuca (Sports) and Paulo Pimenta (Secom) and the FIFA delegation that is in the country to inspect stadiums.

“It doesn’t hurt, we have full confidence in everything that has happened. I was legitimately elected, the biggest vote in the institution’s history. We are working with all optimism and consideration to make the best competitions we have held, the CBF, and also to be prepared to host the World Cup in 2027”, said Rodrigues.

This is the CBF president’s first meeting with Lula since the beginning of the crisis at the institution, at the end of last year, as shown by the Panel.

At the time, Ednaldo was removed from command of the confederation by court decision, but returned in January by decision of Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

Gilmar’s decision will still need to be assessed by the STF plenary. The minister’s argument was that the director’s removal could sour FIFA’s relations with Brazil.

At the time, the Lula government, through the AGU (Advocacia Geral da União), supported Ednaldo’s return to office.

In addition to Brazil, two other groups are competing to host the World Cup: one formed by the USA and Mexico and the other by Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The decision will be announced in May.

FIFA representatives inspected four of the ten stadiums that could host the games in 2027. This Wednesday, they were at Mané Garrincha, in Brasília, yesterday in Rio de Janeiro, tomorrow in Salvador and Friday, in Recife.

On May 14th, at the FIFA congress in Thailand, the winning country will be announced.
