Dubai GP: André Rocha wins gold in shot put – News of Brazil

André Rocha from São Paulo won, this Wednesday (14), the gold medal in the F52 class discus throw event (athletes who compete sitting) at the Paralympic athletics Grand Prix being held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) .

The Brazilian won the event by throwing the discus 20.08 meters. The silver medal went to Latvian Aigars Apinis, with a mark of 19.88 meters, while the bronze went to Lithuanian Kestutis Skucas, who threw the discus 14.92 meters.

Brazil’s other medal in the competition was achieved by Verônica Hipólito, last Tuesday (13) in the 200 meter race in the T36 class (cerebral palsy patients). The 27-year-old athlete secured third place by finishing the race in 32.19. She was behind German Nicole Nicoleitzik, second place with a time of 31.94, and Dutch Cheyenne Bouthoom, gold with 30.96.

The Dubai Athletics Grand Prix has the participation of 537 athletes from 71 countries and will be held until next Thursday (15). Brazil has five representatives in the competition.
