Dorival Júnior is the new coach of the Brazilian Men’s National Team. The coach was presented this Wednesday (9) by the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, in a ceremony at the CBF headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro. Dorival will lead the team starting with the friendlies in March against Spain and England. He will also face challenges with the team in the Copa América and in the Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

“It’s a satisfaction, I’m honestly moved, after everything I’ve experienced, everything I’ve been through”, stated Dorival Júnior, at the opening of his speech to journalists.

“I’m here to make the first call: the Brazilian fan. May you believe more in the team, may you live the team more”, he added.

TRAJECTORY

Champion of the last two editions of the Copa do Brasil (São Paulo, in 2023, and Flamengo, in 2022), Dorival arrives at the helm of the Brazilian National Team with more than 20 years of experience as a coach. He also won the Libertadores in 2022 with Flamengo, the Recopa Sul-Americana in 2011 with Internacional and the Copa do Brasil in 2010 with Santos.

His first job as a coach took place in 2002 at Ferroviária, the club that introduced him to football during his days as an athlete. He then played for Figueirense, where he won the 2004 Campeonato Catarinense, his first title as a coach.

He then commanded Fortaleza, Criciúma, Juventude, Sport, Avaí, São Caetano, Cruzeiro and Coritiba until arriving at Vasco da Gama and winning his first national title: the Series B of the 2009 Brazilian Championship. With the achievement, Dorival was hired by Santos, who became champion of the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil in 2010.

Afterwards, he worked at Atlético-MG, Internacional, Flamengo, Fluminense, Palmeiras, Athletico Paranaense and Ceará and returned to work at Vasco and Santos.
