This Monday (15), federal deputy Rodolfo Nogueira (PL-MS) said that he will present a motion to repudiate the Lula government due to its decision not to clearly condemn Iran’s attack on Israel that took place this weekend.

According to the parliamentarian, “Brazil cannot remain silent when a friendly nation is cowardly attacked”.

“It is unacceptable that the Brazilian government does not condemn the Iranian attacks in light of the recent offensive against Israel. As a member of the Brazil-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group, I was perplexed when I saw that the Itamaraty note did not contain a condemnation of Iran for the attacks. The least that is expected from the government is a clear and firm position against this barbarity. Brazil cannot remain silent when a friendly nation is cowardly attacked. It is time to act responsibly and condemn these acts of aggression”, said Nogueira in a note sent to People’s Gazette.

On Saturday (13), Itamaraty released a note about the attack, but did not formally condemn the Iranian attacks.

“The Brazilian Government follows, with serious concern, reports of Iran sending drones and missiles towards Israel, putting neighboring countries such as Jordan and Syria on alert. Since the beginning of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Brazilian Government has been warning about the destructive potential of the spread of hostilities to the West Bank and to other countries, such as Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and, now, Iran. Brazil calls on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and calls on the international community to mobilize efforts in in order to avoid escalation. In view of the latest events in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Brazilians to avoid non-essential travel to the region, in particular to Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Iran and that the Nationals who are already in those countries should follow the guidelines published on the websites and social media of Brazilian embassies. Itamaraty has been monitoring the situation of Brazilians in the region, particularly in Israel, Palestine and Lebanon since last October”, says the note from Itamaraty.

“The government website only says that it follows the attacks on Israel with ‘grave concern.’ It is absurd for a head of state to collude with terrorism. Israel’s ambassador, Yonatan Gonen, is in Brazil. I want to express once again that we are on Israel’s side, count on me, Ambassador”, wrote the deputy on his profile on the social network X, this Sunday (15).
