David Almeida received the Santos Dumont Merit Medal, in recognition of his services to the Air Force
Manaus (AM) – The mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, participated, this Tuesday (25), in the military ceremony alluding to the 150th birthday of Alberto Santos Dumont, the patron of the Brazilian Air Force, held at the Manaus Air Base (BAMN), in the Industrial District, South Zone of the capital of Amazonas. During the ceremony, David Almeida received the Santos Dumont Merit Medal, in recognition of his services to the Air Force.
“Receiving this medal is a reason for honor and joy, since this ceremony marks a date as important as the 150th anniversary of the birth of Santos Dumont, the patron saint of the Air Force and one of the most distinguished Brazilians of all time. I am happy to have been remembered by the regional air commander, Air Brigadier General David Alcoforado, for this tribute and I ratify that Manaus City Hall is always willing to contribute to the Air Force”,
said Almeida.
During the event, there was a parade of troops and an overflight of different military aircraft.

The 150th birthday of Santos Dumont, celebrated on July 20, recalls the life, works and values of the man who gave wings to humanity. A hero of ingenuity, he flew the heavier-than-air device in 1906 at the Campo de Bagatelle in Paris.
The 14 Bis traveled 60 meters in seven seconds, flying two meters above the ground in front of the Official Commission of the Aeroclube de France and more than a thousand spectators.
