Brasilia DF) – Senator Damares Alves (Republicans) was admitted to the DF Star hospital, in Brasília, this Thursday (7), after experiencing facial paralysis. According to information from the press office, the parliamentarian had a relapse due to the varicella Zoster virus, which causes Herpes Zoster and chicken pox, and is not expected to be discharged, but is clinically well.

In March, the senator had already reported that she was undergoing treatment after having facial paralysis caused by the virus.

“My infection occurred in the ear, a rare case, and caused facial paralysis. I was hospitalized for a few days. I’m fine and working, but I don’t need to explain how embarrassing it is for a woman to go through this. I undergo treatment to alleviate the situation”,

he stated at the time.

The main symptoms of the infection include balls, itching, burning, pain and sores on the skin.

Currently, there is no vaccine for Herpes Zoster in the public health system. In the private network, complete immunization costs more than R$1,000.
