Councilors denounce colleague from the SP Chamber for actions against Father Julio – 12/07/2023 – Panel

Councilors Luna Zarattini and Hélio Rodrigues, from PT, reported Rubinho Nunes (União) to the Internal Affairs Department of the SP City Council.

They claim that the colleague’s actions and speeches about Father Julio Lancellotti constitute a breach of decorum, abuse of mandate prerogatives, incitement to discrimination, moral offenses and disrespect for the dignity of every citizen.

Critical of the religious, Nunes referred to the parish priest as a “pimp of misery”, summoned him to give a statement and filed a CPI to investigate NGOs that also work with homeless people and drug addicts in the center of SP, as the Panel showed. The measures generated criticism from Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the PT, and Silvio Almeida, minister of Human Rights, among others.

“It is unreasonable for a councilor who was elected to represent the citizens of the city of São Paulo to persecute and offend a priest who does recognized work in helping and welcoming the homeless population in the center of São Paulo”, says Luna.

Last week, the priest told the column that the councilor and his allies “keep personalizing and criminalizing to escape the debate on the issue” and that they should “summon the mayor [Ricardo Nunes (MDB)]the Department of Social Assistance, which has public money”.
