Federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) countered the statements made by Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), on Monday night (8), in an interview with the program Roda Viva, on TV Cultura.

In a note released to the press this Tuesday morning (9), Dallagnol said that Mendes “never respected the liturgy of office, prohibitions in the law of the judiciary, rules of suspicion, distance from defendants, nor did he understand the role of fighting corruption for the preservation of democracy”.

Mendes criticized the performance of the now parliamentarian when he was a federal prosecutor in conducting the investigations of Operation Lava Jato that led to the arrest of then-former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), claiming that Dallagnol and then-federal judge Sérgio Moro combined actions of the task force. The magistrate also stated that the institution of the so-called “prize-winning denunciation” would have had the text of the law written by both, “without parameters” and of “poor writing” and he also said that Curitiba “has the gene of fascism”.

In response, Dallagnol stated: “While looking for flaws in Lava Jato, the minister tries to strain needles, but swallows camels, systematically voting in favor of the acquittal and annulment of corrupt sentences, against the technical votes of ministers like Edson Fachin”, he said.

Dallagnol also said that the minister “distills a hatred that shows what is in his heart”, with a message “perverse and contrary to what is fair, moral and ethical”, with words that provoke an “inversion of values that insult Brazilians ”.

The federal deputy also stated that he is not fighting “against Minister Gilmar”, but “in favor of what is right” and that he will continue to fight “against corruption and injustice”. Finally, Deltan Dallagnol countered another statement made by the magistrate in the program, that Curitiba “begat Bolsonaro” and “has the germ of fascism”. According to the parliamentarian, the capital of Paraná “does not have the blood (or last name) of a cockroach”, he concluded in the note.

In addition to Dallagnol, Senator Sérgio Moro also spoke about the speeches, but with a short post on twitter. “I don’t have the same obsession with Gilmar Mendes that he has with me. I fought corruption and arrested criminals who plundered democracy. Not many can say the same in this country,” he said.

See below what it says note full by Deltan Dallagnol against the statements by Gilmar Mendes.

“Gilmar Mendes never respected the liturgy of office, prohibitions in the judiciary law, rules of suspicion, distance from defendants, nor did he understand the role of combating corruption in preserving democracy.

While looking for flaws in Lava Jato, the minister tries to strain needles, but swallows camels, systematically voting in favor of the acquittal and annulment of corrupt sentences, against the technical votes of ministers like Edson Fachin.

The minister exudes a hatred that shows what is in his heart. His message is perverse and contrary to what is fair, moral and ethical. His words illustrate the inversion of values that insult Brazilians.

There are many questions that Minister Gilmar needs to answer: have you already called newsrooms asking for the heads of journalists? Have you called universities asking for the heads of academics whose work you disliked? Have you called politicians to make nominations? Called ministers from other courts to influence votes?

My fight is not against Minister Gilmar, but in favor of people and what is right, out of love. I will move forward seeking to serve people and fulfill a greater life purpose of love for others. I will continue to fight against corruption and injustice, even if this requires taking a stand against the attitude of the powerful who try to rule Brazil.

I end with a tribute to Curitiba, the capital of my heart, where I married my wife and where my children were born. Our city is and will continue to be a light for the country and the world. The aversion that some have to the beautiful Republic of Curitiba is because the people of Paraná do not have the blood (or last name) of a cockroach”.
