Cross-border card between French Guiana and Brazil is issued again – News of Brazil

After a meeting held on Thursday (18), the city of Saint Georges, in French Guiana, on the border between Brazil and Oiapoque, in Amapá, is once again issuing the cross-border card. The document authorizes the movement of residents of the municipality of Oiapoque for 72 consecutive hours in the French city without a visa.
With the card, which is valid for two years, Brazilians are not authorized to obtain residence documentation or the right to work in French Guiana. Essential products with the limit respected can transit normally, except eggs, bananas and potatoes. Created in 2015, the system was suspended in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic.
To request the card, you must send an email to [email protected] to schedule an appointment. The documents must be taken to the Sous-prefécture of Saint Georges on the scheduled date and time. The card is free and can be purchased by minors, as long as they have authorization signed by their guardians with their personal documents.
The III Meeting of the Local Administration Committee of the Cross-Border Circulation Regime between France and Brazil, a meeting between the Government of Amapá and the authorities of the French department, mediated by the countries’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was responsible for the resumption of the system.
“We believe that the return of the cross-border wallet is a victory and a step taken towards the return of visa issuance in Amapá, as well as, in the future, the exemption of this document. An extension of the validity of the cross-border charter to other municipalities in the state was also proposed, which will be evaluated and taken to the higher authorities of the French government”, said Lucas Abrahao, Secretary of International Relations and Foreign Trade of the government of Amapá.

- Brazilian criminal record;
- Proof of residence for less than 3 months;
- 2 recent 3×4 photos.
