Parliamentarians criticize Conae reference text: “political and ideological bias”
Under the leadership of evangelicals and members of the bullet bench, a group formed by thirteen parliamentary fronts prepared a joint note criticizing the reference text of the National Education Conference (Conae), scheduled for the 28th of this month.
The manifesto, which circulates in WhatsApp groups and must be sent to the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, sees political and ideological bias in the document released in October.
“The base text exposes several political-ideological issues, without scientific basis, which we recommend suspending so that all economic and social sectors can actively participate in the discussions”,
the document states.
The benches also demonstrate discomfort with Conae’s proposal to emphasize participation in movements that affirm diversity.
And they complain about the use of what they consider “pejorative adjectives” aimed at sectors not covered by the vision of Conae organizers.
Finally, it recommends postponing the National Education Conference to the second half of 2024 and extending the current National Education Plan until a final decision on the matter is made.
“The Parliamentary Fronts that signed this document publicly request the Ministry of Education to forward to the National Congress an extension proposal to avoid any harm to Brazilian education while building a new plan in a democratic, transparent and participatory manner”,

Reference document
Conae is promoted by the Ministry of Education (MEC). The articulation and coordination of conferences are the responsibility of the National Education Forum.
The document that guides debates at state, district, municipal or intermunicipal conferences was released in October last year.
The text highlights that “the next decade in education must be paved on the exercise, in all institutions, spaces and processes, of respect, tolerance, promotion and appreciation of diversities (ethnic-racial, religious, cultural, generational, territorial , physical-individual, disability, high abilities or giftedness, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, political option, among others)”.
