CPI das Pirâmides hears from Haddad’s nephew this Tuesday

This Tuesday (12), the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the Financial Pyramids hears four witnesses, including Guilherme Haddad Nazar, nephew of the Minister of Finance, Fernanda Haddad.

Guilherme is director of the cryptocurrency brokerage Binance in Brazil and must provide clarifications on the company’s operations, as well as the relationship with representative B Fintech and possible partnerships with other companies.

The summons of Haddad’s nephew was requested by deputy Alfredo Gaspar (União-AL).

The CPI investigates financial pyramid schemes using cryptocurrencies. According to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), 11 companies allegedly used false information to attract victims and support a pyramid scheme.

In addition to Guilherme, representatives from the companies Hurb-Hotel Urbano and Booking.com will also be heard. Hurb-Hotel is accused of making working capital with customers’ money and is the target of a lawsuit from the National Consumer Secretariat, of the Ministry of Justice, for breach of contracts. Booking has been the target of complaints from users for allegedly not passing on rental prices to hosts since June this year.

The Commission also summoned Matheus Muller Ferreira de Abreu, one of the leaders of Valquíria, an investigation group that seeks to recover lost values.

According to deputy Luciano Vieira (PL-RJ), responsible for the request to summon Matheus, the group has “concrete evidence that more than 200 thousand Brazilians were harmed by financial pyramids”.

Installed in June this year, the Commission has already heard Glaidson Acácio, known as the “Pharaoh of Bitcoins”; founders of MSK Operations and Investments; company partners 123 miles; businessman and former football player Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, known as Ronaldinho Gaúcho; and promoted an audience to hear the perspective of brokers.
