Former director of Odebrecht: canceling the agreement does not repair damage – 09/12/2023 – Panel
Former legal director of Odebrecht, Maurício Ferro published a text on his personal website saying that the annulment of the company’s leniency agreement by Minister Dias Toffoli (STF) is not enough to repair the “damage” caused to those accused in the scheme.
Brother-in-law of Marcelo Odebrecht, with whom he broke up during the Lava Jato scandal, Ferro was arrested in the operation.
“Increasingly, we have a real sense of the extent of the disloyalty of the so-called republic of Curitiba”, he states in the article.
According to Ferro, the accusations had the effect of declaring the “civil death” of those involved. “No matter how much this legal aberration is unmasked and the soul is disinfected with the possibility of putting these cheaters of the law in jail, the damage they caused to society and individuals is irreparable”, argues Ferro.
According to the executive, even if he is acquitted in criminal matters, a Lava Jato defendant cannot easily resume his normal life.
“Their children suffered prejudice in schools, banks canceled their current accounts, they were expelled from recreational clubs and others had their visas canceled in other countries. Some suffered persecution in other countries. They were abandoned by their friends or supposed friends and, even even family members turned their backs on him”, he declared in the text.
