Council approves and Athletico stadium will be called Mario Celso Petraglia

The Deliberative Council of the Athletico defined the change of the institutional name of the Joaquim Américo Guimarães stadium to Estádio Mario Celso Petraglia. The meeting took place on Monday night (26) and the approval of the agenda was unanimous, with no vote against.

By agreement of naming rights, the venue continues to be commercially called Ligga Arena. The club wrote on its platforms that the tribute “celebrates a legacy” of the red-black president.

“More than a tribute, this Monday’s decision (26) also recognizes and celebrates Mario Celso Petraglia’s legacy for the stadium, Athletico Paranaense, Curitiba and the State of Paraná. An arena that is a symbol of ambition, enthusiasm, rebelliousness and innovation, and that drives Furacão, almost a century old, to more and more achievements”, he highlighted.

The change came on the agenda last week and generated discussions. On the one hand, fans who didn’t like the suggestion and wanted the club to promote another type of tribute to Petraglia.

Together with them, the family of Joaquim Américo Guimarães, who had not been consulted and even created a petition to prevent the change. The red-black board even called the descendants of the historical character to a meeting last Friday (23).

On the other side, the athletes who saw the idea as inevitable since the great leader was responsible for the entire transformation of the place. Some fans even suggested the idea of ​​creating a museum and thus naming it after Joaquim Américo. The Athletico board must now meet again with Guimarães’ family to think about other tributes for him.
