The LDU team, from Ecuador, by beating Fortaleza this Saturday (28), won the Copa Sudamericana for the second time in its history. The club had already won the tournament in 2009. It is also the fourth time that the South American team is with Ecuador — Independiente del Valle won in 2019 and 2022.

Played since 2002, the competition has had 17 different champions, between Argentine, Brazilian, Ecuadorian, Colombian, Mexican, Chilean and Peruvian clubs. Argentina leads the ranking of achievements with nine titles, followed by Brazil, with five, and Ecuador, with three.

The first Brazilian team to win the competition was Internacional, in 2008. São Paulo, Chapecoense and Athletico-PR (twice) are the other teams in the country that have already won the tournament.
