The Public Security and Combating Organized Crime Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday (28) a request to hear the judge of the Criminal Executions Court of the Federal District, Leila Cury, about the death of Cleriston Pereira, one of the defendants on January 8th, who died last Monday (20th), in the Papuda prison, in Brasília. The hearing with the judge has not yet been scheduled.

The invitation request was presented by deputies Delegado Caveira (PL-PA), Delegado Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP), Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and Marcos Pollon (PL-MS).

In their justification, the parliamentarians point out that judge Leila Cury was responsible for presenting the death notice of the provisional prisoner to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). According to the letter, SAMU and the Fire Department were called to assist, but were unsuccessful.

“It should be noted that the deceased’s defense had asked the STF, in August of this year, for his provisional release, alleging that the prisoner had serious health problems, especially regarding his cardiac system”, explain the deputies.

According to the judge’s letter, Cleriston was taking medication for diabetes and hypertension and had already been treated at the Papuda medical service for symptoms of Covid-19.

The parliamentarians intend to hear the judge to “prevent other prisoners in the same situation from continuing without a decision regarding their requests for provisional release”.

The commission also approved a request to try to hear from the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, about information regarding Cleriston’s death, as well as access to his medical reports and monitored recordings from the period in which he was in prison.
