The film about the history of football in Amazonas was chosen as best documentary at the International Art & Tur Festival, in Portugal

Manaus (AM) – The Cineclube de Arte presents, in another edition of the Amazon Film Festival, the documentary film “Amazonas, o Jogo da Bola”, this Saturday (28), at 6:30 pm, at Cineteatro Guarany. The production by filmmaker Chicão Fill was art directed by the artist and curator from Amazonas, Oscar Ramos. Entry is free and classification is free.

The documentary narrates the history of football in Amazonas, from the beginnings of the first record in Brazil of a ball game in the 13th century, reported by a European, through the Cambeba ethnic group in Amazonas, which will lead the evolution of the ball to football. English rule.

In a chronology of time, passing through Manaus at the end of the 19th century, being the pioneer city in Brazil to host football that originated the first century-old championship in Amazonas, the director highlights the decades of football glories in the capital until the construction of the Arena of the Amazon, in 2014.

“After years of exhaustive bibliographical, iconographic and filmic research, in addition to the contribution of several personalities from Amazonian sports, including friends, journalists, players, managers, I managed to make the documentary film ‘Amazonas, o Jogo da Bola’ in 2015” ,

says Chicão.

The following year, the film was awarded in the best documentary category at the International Art & Tur Festival, in Portugal. Furthermore, the production was shown on Canal Brasil and at several festivals, such as Footcine and FestCine Amazônia.

Amazonian pioneering

The story told by the filmmaker shows an Amazonian pioneer in the “ball game”. “As a child, I listened to several stories told by my parents and grandparents. Raised in the rubber plantations of the Madeira River, they said that Cernambi balls were made by hand, a sure entertainment for children on the banks of the river. I even played in Manaus in the 70s”, says the filmmaker.

The “thread” pulled by Cernambi’s ball led to a remote past, with the reports of the French scientist Charles-Marie de La Condamine, during the scientific trip he made between the Orinoco River and the Portuguese colonial city of Vila de Ega ( today Tefé), in which he witnessed, at the invitation of the Cambebas in the 18th century, a “game of a ball” made from a latex bladder that defied the law of gravity.

“I realized that the evolution of the rubber cycle and the second industrial revolution was directly related to the syringe, which contributed to ‘English Rule Football’. Making the European rag ball bounce against the law of gravity with the use of the rubber bladder in the English ball”,

says Chicão Fill.

This is the little-known story, which brings the beginnings of football to the Amazon, which the filmmaker tells in the 80 minutes of the film.
