The trail at the Ort Hotel, in Campos do Jordão, has a guide who knows the Serra da Mantiqueira like few others: the dog Madonna. A pet that lives on the premises of the luxury accommodation, it accompanies visitors on experiences around the property.

Madonna appeared as a puppy during the renovation of the Ort in 2020, a hotel that was purchased by businessman Fábio Burg at auction. Adopted by the employees, the dog became part of the landscape and the programs offered to guests.

Among the dog’s favorite activities is guiding visitors along the property’s trail, a 40,000 square meter space that mixes German-inspired buildings and a forest reserve.

On the almost 2 km route, covered in pine leaves, like araucaria, Madonna leads the way, perfectly indicating which paths to follow and where to step. Without requiring much effort due to the few sharp climbs, the walk gives a dimension of the size of the Ort forest area.

During the journey, the canine guide stops and goes into the bush. It then barks at surrounding insects, but always returns to lead the group.

After leading guests to the highest part of the property, she rests in the shade. Employees always remember to bring water for the dog.

At the peak of the trail, the hotel offers a clear view of both the sunrise and the sunset, with breakfast or afternoon options served by a waiter. Madonna’s presence is a bonus.

But the dog is not the only animal on the property. Ort hosts a small farm that brings together, under one roof, turtles, goats, sheep, pigs and peacocks.

The space, intended for adults and children, provides contact with animals that are not so common in large cities. On Tuesday (24), a little goat was born and became part of the group.

But unlike her animal friends, Madonna has free access to the hotel’s flower gardens, rain or shine. It is not uncommon for a guest to find the dog walking, resting or even participating in the hotel’s advertisements.

Guests can also bring their pets, as Ort has pet-friendly rooms. The accommodation offers beds, snacks, water and food bowls, sanitary mats and a screened-in balcony.
