The objective of the test was to encourage harmony, respect and understanding among participants.

Manaus (AM) – The ‘Advancing Race for Peace’ was held last Saturday (24), in nine municipalities in Amazonas. The 5-kilometer pedestrian race, in addition to testing the athletes’ endurance and speed, aimed to encourage harmony, respect and understanding among participants.

In Manaus, the 14th edition of the race started at 6 am, at the Canãa Convention Center, located on Avenida Rodrigo Otávio, in the Japiim neighborhood. Marathon runner Jean Pereira, who this February was the big winner of the XII Cia Sport Run, a 10 kilometer general individual category, had no difficulty staying in the lead.

At the start, Jean occupied first position. Along the way, good physical preparation made the difference. The athlete from Tumpex, a cleaning company, finished the race in first place, achieving the highest point on the podium for the second year in a row.

“The fact that I train constantly helps me maintain my physical and psychological preparation to face the tests. Each achievement is a big step in this running career, which this year completes three decades”,

said Jean Pereira.

The 47-year-old marathon runner is a persevering athlete. Jean works in public cleaning as a street sweeper, collecting rubbish in the city of Manaus, from 6am to 2pm. The fast pace and light runs on different types of terrain awaken the body and begin daily conditioning.

“This activity already serves as training for me. But every day, after work, I still exercise by running through the streets of Colônia Antônio Aleixo, the neighborhood where I live”, explained the champion.

The ‘Advancing Race for Peace’ also took place in the cities of Autazes, Presidente Figueiredo, Manacapuru, Coari, Tabatinga, Tefé, Manicoré and São Paulo de Olivença. In the municipality of Boa Vista do Ramos, the test will take place on March 2nd.

Socio-environmental actions

In addition to the pedestrian race, the ‘Advancing Race for Peace’ featured sustainability action. To encourage the conscious use of natural resources, preserving the environment, the organizers received products that would otherwise be discarded by the athletes, such as cans, bottle caps, sheets, hardware, wire, metal cutlery, pans without handles, aluminum foil, pipes, nails, aerosols and copper.

Seedlings were donated to encourage planting by athletes in order to increase greenery in cities, provide more shade, reducing the sensation of heat. In addition, race participants took part in a non-perishable food donation campaign, which will be destined for people in socially vulnerable situations.
