The governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), stated this Wednesday (25) that he would accept to run for president of the Republic in 2026. Caiado said that he will seek the support of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) if this “dream” is achieved. come to fruition. Bolsonaro was declared ineligible for eight years by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

“If I am successful in a candidacy, if I am nominated, it is logical that I will seek his support [Bolsonaro]“, said the governor in an interview with Metropolis portal. He will not be able to run again for state leadership, as he is in his second term. “All parties will nominate names to contest a normal election, that’s normal. And without a doubt, my name will be included… As I now reach my age group, I am in a position to show exactly what Ronaldo Caiado did in national politics,” he said.

The governor defended a union of the Brazilian right for 2026 and denied the possibility of migrating to the PL to contest the presidential election. “Since the defense point, that is, the principles are similar, I don’t see the slightest difficulty for us to form a great center-right alliance in Brazil,” he stated.

Caiado and Bolsonaro’s relationship has been marked by ups and downs in recent years. The two clashed during the Covid-19 pandemic and, during last year’s elections, Bolsonaro supported Major Vitor Hugo (PL) in the dispute for the government of Goiás, who came in third place in the dispute. Despite this, Caiado supported the former president in the second round in 2022.
