Lawyer mocks Moro’s ‘vote against’ the nominee for the STJ, but former judge says he was in favor – 10/25/2023 – Panel

Coordinator of the legal group Prerogativas, lawyer Marco Aurélio Carvalho says that he received “with joy” the vote against senator Sergio Moro (União-PR) to the appointment of lawyer Daniela Teixeira for a position as minister of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
The former judge, however, told the Panel that he voted in favor of the nomination.
Teixeira, linked to Prerogativas, underwent a hearing at the Senate Constitution and Justice Committee, where it was approved by 26 votes in favor and 1 against.
“We welcomed this vote against from Senator Sergio Moro. It would be worrying if he supported the nomination. We don’t even want his vote,” said Carvalho. Prerogativas was one of the main critics of Lava Jato and Moro’s role in the operation.
Voting at the CCJ is secret. The lawyer says he deduced that Moro was against Teixeira. In contact with the Panel, however, the senator actually says he voted in favor.
“Although the vote is secret, I voted in favor of the nomination [de Teixeira] at CCJ. Now if Marco Aurélio Carvalho were a candidate, I would vote against, due to my lack of preparation”, he declared.
