Governor of Amazonas joins the new council, which brings together representatives from federal, state and municipal governments to resolve the country’s demands
Brasilia DF) – Governor Wilson Lima participated in the installation of the Federation Council, held by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília, this Wednesday (25) and was sworn in as an alternate in the seat of representative of the North region. The initiative responds to a request from governors and is a strategy to face the country’s problems, uniting federal, state and municipal governments.
The ceremony, which took place at Palácio do Planalto, also inaugurated its 18 members and marked the first meeting of the collegiate. The composition is equal to the three levels of government (federal, state and municipal). Presided over by the President of the Republic, the body will also have other representatives from the Federal Government and municipal entities.
“This initiative meets a demand from us, governors and mayors, who directly face problems that affect the lives of those who live in cities and states, such as the historic drought that Amazonas is facing. And with the Council we have the opportunity for direct dialogue to find faster resolutions to these situations”, assessed Wilson Lima.

The ceremony was attended by vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, the chief minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations (SRI), Alexandre Padilha, the minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, the minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, the minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, governors and authorities from the Legislature and Judiciary.
Established by Decree No. 11,495 of April 18, 2023, the Federation Council has the purpose of facing the problems of federated entities. The main task of the collegiate is to “subsidize and promote the articulation, negotiation and agreement of strategies and actions of common priority interests, with a view to sustainable economic development and the reduction of social and regional inequalities” (§1, art. 1). ).
Drought in Amazonas
On the occasion, President Lula cited the severe drought affecting Amazonas, stating, among other examples, that the drought is not just a problem for the state or the region, but for Brazil as a whole, and that therefore dialogue and partnership to face these situations.
According to data from Tuesday (24), the day Manaus turned 354 years old, of the 62 municipalities in Amazonas, 59 are in a state of emergency, one on alert and two in normality, affecting 152 thousand families and 608 thousand people.
