The headquarters of the Union of Journalists of Paraíba was attacked early on Friday (30), in João Pessoa. The invaders destroyed the space.

This was the third criminal act against the building in a span of three weeks.

Civil Police investigate the case. The corporation says that “there are similarities with thefts and invasions committed by drug users, but it is necessary to wait for the outcome of the investigations”.

The union’s headquarters are in the Varadouro neighborhood, in the central area of ​​the capital of Paraíba.

After breaking into space, criminals broke objects and stole equipment and items. Documents were destroyed.

The union’s president, Land Seixas, classified the incident as a “war scene” and said he was awaiting the police investigation.

He estimates a loss of up to R$ 80,000 for the union. “We can’t receive journalists because there’s nothing, they broke everything and took everything, chairs in the auditorium, lamps, electrical equipment, speakers, air conditioning, everything you can imagine.”

Seixas says that the city center has problems of insecurity and complains about the lack of policing in the area close to the union. “The center of João Pessoa is being abandoned by the managers. In other words, what is of benefit to the population of the center is being withdrawn. Nobody sees a soldier, a vehicle or anything”, he says.

The Military Police was approached by the report, but did not respond until the publication of this text.

The union’s Instagram profile released a note about previous cases of attack on the building.

On Tuesday (27), the headquarters was broken into and robbed, according to the union. Criminals broke walls and a glass door and damaged computer, sound box, copper wires and power machines.

“In addition to this damage, the armchairs were left upside down, the walls that support the doors were destroyed. But the biggest damage was the loss of documents that are inserted in the computer programs”, said Land in the note referring to the invasion on the 27th. July.

Two weeks ago, the union leader had already filed a police report after bandits took copper wires from the air conditioners.
