Botafogo organization issues note threatening players

The climate of Botafogo it goes from bad to worse. After losing leadership of the Brasileirão definitively for Palmeiras and no longer depending on itself to be champion, the club entered into a conflict with its own fans. John Textor fez use of social media to expose threats suffered by players through the organization, which asked several athletes to leave, including midfielder Eduardo, one of the team’s highlights in the first round.

“Really? Is this a joke? You are the least respected and most useless of our wonderful organized fans. The Botafogo family feels pain, but does not stand up with you. Respect the men who gave us hope to dream again”, said Textor , owner of 90% of the club’s SAF.

The president’s statement is also based on the note released by the club’s organizers. “Fúria Jovem do Botafogo demands the immediate removal of weak and negligent players who do not represent our desire to be champions. Eduardo, Di Plácido, Marlon Freitas and Cuesta make up a bloodless squad, bringing enormous frustration in this final stretch of the Championship. Play for love or all hell will break loose. We demand everyone on the bench. Give space to those who want to win. Salary on time, beatings missing.”

Textor has been the face of Botafogo in this time of crisis. He is constantly seen in games and with players. He even hired an independent company to analyze possible refereeing errors in the Brazilian Championship. The owner of SAF stated that the tournament was corrupted and that his team should be far ahead of their opponents on the leaderboard.

Despite the statements, Botafogo appears in second, with 61 points, one behind leader Palmeiras. The next challenge, which could put the team back at the top, is against Santos, this Sunday, at 4pm, at Engenhão, in Rio de Janeiro.
