Botafogo announces the dismissal of coach Tiago Nunes

Botafogo announced, on the afternoon of this Thursday (22), the dismissal of coach Tiago Nunes. The departure comes the day after the 1-1 draw with Bolivian side Aurora in the preliminary round of the Libertadores.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the club’s leadership this Thursday, according to a statement released. John Textor, owner of SAF, and the football department are in the market for a new coach.

Results and controversy in an interview. The black and white team did not achieve good results at the start of the season, which was added to the coach’s recent statement about players asking to be left out of matches, after a defeat to Vasco. The following day, he backed down and criticized what he considered to be “context-free excerpts” from the interview.

Tiago Nunes arrived at Glorioso in the final stretch of last year. He replaced Lúcio Flávio in command of the team, but was unable to put the team back in contention for the Brazilian title. Furthermore, it finished outside the direct classification zone for the Libertadores group stage.
