Parliamentarians allied with Jair Bolsonaro (PL) continue to be skeptical about the possibility of the former president winning the trial that begins this Thursday morning (22), at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), for abuse of political power.

They even consider it predictable that the outcome will be Bolsonaro’s ineligibility for eight years, due to a meeting in June 2022 with 80 ambassadors, outside the electoral period, to discuss electronic voting machines.

Deputy Maurício Marcon (Podemos-RS) told the People’s Gazette that the TSE’s action aims to “take Bolsonaro out of the political game because they fear his return to the Presidency” and, therefore, the result of the action proposed by the PDT is already known. For him, Bolsonaro exercised his right to demonstrate this Wednesday (21), by issuing a contrary opinion on the trends of the trials.

Senator Espiridião Amin (PP-SC) thinks that the fact claimed in the action should be investigated, but removing a leader from political life seems excessive and “tearing up the history of the TSE”. He regrets that the Electoral Justice is about to condemn anyone who complains about the lack of auditability of the vote in the Brazilian electoral system.

“Our system is imperfect and the gesture of demanding that it be auditable, as it is in Paraguay, should be interpreted as a request for improvement”, he said.

For the parliamentarian, it is not constitutional for the former president to be questioned for allegedly suggesting risks of fraud in elections. “He did not make that claim and, moreover, his actions were consistent with the liturgy of office,” he said.
