Bolsonaro goes to the STF against Lula for speeches about mansion in the USA

The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will file a lawsuit at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this Thursday (22) to ask President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for explanations for having insinuated that he would be the owner of a US$ 8 million mansion in the United States in the name of Mauro Cid, former assistant to the presidency.

The action signed by lawyer Fábio Wajngarten, Bolsonaro’s former secretary of communication, and other defenders, will be filed on the same day that the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) begins to judge the process filed by the PDT for alleged abuse of political power on account of of the meeting with ambassadors held last year, before the elections, by the former president.

The possibility of filing a lawsuit against Lula had already been advanced by Bolsonaro last month, in which he said that the statement was “absurd”, and that the PT “cannot continue to speak lies at will, not be bothered by practically anyone. ”.

The ex-president’s defense asks Lula to clarify which individuals he was referring to and evidence and grounds for stating that the property had some connection with the former president, according to a document obtained by Folha de São Paulo. The allegation is that the owner of the mansion is Daniel Cid, Mauro Cid’s brother, and that the amount paid would be US$ 1.7 million, and not US$ 8 million as quoted by Lula.

Bolsonaro’s representatives also claim that Daniel Cid has a “long and consolidated career” in the technology and digital security sector in the US, and that this would have resulted in the construction of “considerable assets in a completely lawful way”.

For the ex-president’s defense, Daniel’s professional history “does not bear any relationship with his brother, Mauro Cid, and even less with Bolsonaro that could minimally support the intended statements and insinuations publicly verbalized by the respondent. [Lula]”.

“It should also be noted that Daniel Cid’s business life in the US predates the beginning of the questioner’s term.
[Bolsonaro]not having any congruence with the insinuation of asset concealment in its name”, they state in the document.

“The fanciful hypothesis insinuated to those present there and to Brazilian society in general – given that it was a televised event and images widely reflected and shared on social networks – is absolutely untrue, and suggests that the respondent [Lula] intended, with this transverse and surreptitious expedient, to achieve the honor and image of the inquirer [Bolsonaro]”, they complete.
