A survey by CAF, a company specializing in digital identity, shows that scams using biometric data are increasingly common. The most frequent attacks (93%) occurred on urban mobility systems, such as applications (Uber, 99, among others). The remaining 7% were image or document fraud.

Among the most detected practices are spoofing (using a manipulated image to pretend to be another person and access information) and the attempt to use one’s own face to pretend to be another person.

CAF says that, in the mobility sector, digitalization and the variety of transport options create a favorable scenario for scammers.

Customer data is less protected and it is up to companies that provide services to create safer environments.

In general, 77% of scams were carried out using people’s biometrics, the highest record that CAF had this year.

The states in which service users are most susceptible to fraud are São Paulo — alone accounts for 30% of cases —, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia and Pará.

In these regions, there was fraud in at least 5% of transactions.
