Manaus (AM) — In an academic journey full of challenges and achievements, Maria Carolina Puça, a graduate of Centro Universitário Fametro, was approved in the CAPES Institutional Internationalization Program to carry out her sandwich PhD at the Karoliska Institute, in Sweden. Maria Carolina participates in the research group on Molecular Biology and Immunology of Malaria (BMIM) at the René Rachou Institute/Fiocruz Minas.

She stood out during the course, demonstrating academic excellence and interest in health research. Maria Carolina shared her experience.

“During my graduation, I had the opportunity to be a monitor for two subjects. This program was essential for the professor to learn more about my professional profile and direct me to which type of research field would be best for me.” The students’ participation in monitoring contributed significantly to their development.

The sandwich doctorate is a study program for those doing a doctorate, an academic modality in which the student carries out part of their research at a university or research institute abroad. Maria Carolina was awarded a one-year scholarship to carry out part of her doctorate in Sweden, at the Karolinska Institute, renowned for biomedical research.

Maria Carolina’s approval in the program represents not only the recognition of her talent and effort, but also the opening of new opportunities to contribute to scientific and technological advances in the area of ​​biomedicine.

According to her, after completing her doctorate, she plans to continue in the field and start a post-doctorate. Her passion for science motivates her: “My work is aimed at improving the lives of those people in my region who suffer from malaria.”
