Lula announces 100 new federal institutes and attacks critics of assistance programs

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced, this Tuesday morning (12), the construction of 100 new federal educational institutes for technical training that will generate around 140 thousand new vacancies, most of them linked to secondary education. . The ceremony was held at Palácio do Planalto and was attended by, among other guests, federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), elected to preside over the Education Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and one of the government’s most oppositionists in the house.

Lula once again stated that the resources he allocates to education are “investments” and not “expenses”, and fired at critics of government actions such as income distribution grants. The mention was made in relation to the “Pé de Meia” program, which created a type of savings account for young people attending high school.

“A lot of people tell me ‘ah, but now Lula is giving money. In addition to giving money to the poor with Bolsa Família, giving free housing to those who earn nothing, now it will give money to students’. Let’s give it, because we want you to study”, he said during the launch.

He also stated that the granting of social benefits is a “fight that is not easy” and that “there are many people in this country accustomed to all the nation’s money going to just a part of the population”. “The rest go hungry, no problem,” he said.

Lula also once again criticized the world’s military spending – at around US$3 trillion – while people are going hungry.

The president also stated that the increase in the number of vacancies in institutes will provide, especially for women, the possibility of having a profession with a salary, which “can pay for her life”.

“She will not live, eat, with a man who does not like her. She will not live out of necessity, out of dependence, she will live her life and will live with someone if she likes someone. There will be her option, she will choose. She will not become dependent,” she said.

The goal of building 100 new federal institutes will have R$3.9 billion through the New PAC, with R$2.5 billion for the installation of new campuses and R$1.4 billion for improvements to existing units, such as the construction of cafeterias, gyms, libraries, classrooms and acquisition of equipment.

There will be 38 units in the Northeast, 27 in the Southeast, 13 in the South, 12 in the North and 10 in the Midwest. The states that will have the most new structures are São Paulo (12), Minas Gerais (8) and Bahia (8).
