CIES (International Center for Sports Studies) released a survey of the amounts spent and received by clubs involving athlete negotiations in the last 10 years (between 2014 and 2023). The observatory lists the 50 biggest profits and the 50 biggest deficits in the world. According to the publication, Barcelona-ESP was the team that had the biggest loss in this regard.

Between 2014 and 2023, the Spanish team spent 1.2 billion euros and had a return of 613 million, which results in a difference of 631 million euros in player transfers. In second place is Chelsea-ING, with a loss of 482 million euros, while Arsenal closes the top 3 with -436 million euros.

Among the best, Lille-FRA leads the ranking with a gain of 317 million euros, Ajax-HOL appears in second place with a profit of 317 million euros, while RB Salzburg-AUS is in third place thanks to a profit of 233 million euros.

The institute does not take into account sales of players trained by clubs’ youth teams, only athletes that teams buy and then resell.
