While free, awaiting the judgment of appeals in more than 20 cases that resulted in convictions that totaled more than 400 years in prison, the former governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral, tries his hand at life as an “influencer” and political consultant .

A self-confessed defendant, Cabral was convicted of criminal organization, money laundering, crimes against the financial system, passive corruption, active corruption, currency evasion, bidding fraud and cartel formation.

Arrested in 2016, Cabral served 6 years in prison before being released in December last year, following a decision by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

At first, the former governor went from the closed regime to house arrest.

In February of this year, the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region revoked the last house arrest order against Cabral and, in September, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) gave a favorable opinion to the request of Sérgio Cabral’s defense so that the former governor can remove the electronic ankle monitor.

Active on social media, the former governor recently celebrated the milestone of 30 thousand followers on Instagram

“Thirty thousand followers without marketing, without hype, step by step. Thank you guys. It is with great emotion that I thank you for this new beginning of mine”, said Cabral.

The former governor has adopted a sober tone in his communication, mainly through social media, and has guaranteed that he does not hold a grudge against those who would have “stabbed him in the back”.

Always smiling, Cabral has invested in publishing photos with his family and, often, has addressed topics that are easy for the public to assimilate, such as, for example, topics related to football.

The former governor has also published videos in which he presents his version of works carried out under his government.

Cabral’s “fresh start” is not restricted to the internet. According to the newspaper O Globo, he already has 15 political consultancy contracts with mayors of Rio de Janeiro aiming for the 2024 elections.
