Athletico beats Tanabi on penalties and guarantees a place in the Copinha

O Athletico is classified for the third phase of the São Paulo Junior Football Cup. After a 1-1 draw in normal time with Tanabi, Furacão secured their spot on penalties, winning 4-1. The game took place this Friday morning (12), in Tanabi.
With the result, Rubro-Negro awaits the winner of the clash between Ponte Preta and Catanduva, who face each other on Friday night.
Furacão opened the scoring after just five minutes, with Smile taking advantage of a rebound in the Tanabi area. However, in the final minute of the first stage, Tanabi equalized with a great goal from Romarinho.

In the final stage, the game remained balanced and ended with the same score as the first stage. In penalties, Tanabi wasted two kicks and Athletico won 4-1.
In the group stage, Athletico beat Sparta 9-0 in their debut, and then beat Portuguesa-RJ, 2-1. In the final round, they ended up being defeated by Catanduva, 2-1.
This is Athletico’s 28th participation in the Copinha. The best campaign in history was the runner-up in 2009. In the last edition, the club was eliminated by Floresta-CE on penalties, still in the round of 16.
