The board of Athletico invited Joaquim Américo Guimarães’ family to a meeting this Friday (23). The contact is an attempt at rapprochement after the Furacão board proposed changing the name of the red-black stadium to Mario Celso Petraglia without consulting the family of the club’s historic character.
After all the negative repercussions, the president of the Athletico Deliberative Council, Aguinaldo Coelho, called some descendants for this conversation that lasted almost two hours, at the Ligga Arena.

Joaquim Américo’s family members expressed their points, and the president will take the discussion to the assembly next Monday (26). The Guimarães had already created an online petition to bring together other athletes opposed to the agenda. To date, almost 2 thousand people have signed.
The family is against the change, as they understand that Américo was not only important for Athletico, but has a history of pioneering the sport and was the person who built the first stadium in Paraná. The change would be to deconstruct a legacy. The request would be for another type of tribute to be made to Petraglia.
After the Deliberative meeting, the red-black board and the family will meet again to find out more about the board’s position. It is worth remembering that councilors should not decide alone about changing the stadium’s nomenclature. By agreement of naming rightsthe venue is commercially called Ligga Arena.
