Manaus (AM) – Maria de Fátima, a weightlifting athlete, was called up by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) for the team that will represent Brazil at the Tbilisi 2024 Para Powerlifting World Cup, in Georgia. The Amazon native from Tefé (523 kilometers from Manaus) will present herself to the CPB on June 15th.

The Tbilisi World Cup stage will be played between the 20th and 26th of June, being the last before the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The competition is worth points for the A index, defined by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), for athletes who will represent Brazil in the Paralympics.

The para-athlete, who is sponsored by the Government of Amazonas, through Bolsa Sport Estadual and is a member of the Amazonas Project at the Paris 2024 Olympics, had as her last result a silver medal, won at the 13th Fazza Dubai Para Powerlifting World Cup. The Amazonian guaranteed bronze at the Parapan-American Games in Santiago and ended 2023 at the top of the national weightlifting rankings in the up to 67 kg category.

In search of points to qualify for the 2024 Paris Games, Maria de Fátima was optimistic for the competition.

“I’m going to the competition with the aim of improving the ranking and bringing another medal for our state. I’m anxious, but confident at the same time, I’m on my way to my first Paralympics and I need to do well,”

said the athlete from Amazonas.

“Maria’s call-up demonstrates the importance of these support programs as vital investments in sport in our state. The Government of Amazonas is committed to supporting our athletes, providing the resources and infrastructure they need to compete at a high level on the world stage”, said Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), Jorge Oliveira.
