Association of SP prosecutors calls for creation of administrative career – 03/30/2024 – Panel

On March 22, the Association of Attorneys of the State of São Paulo (Apesp) launched a movement to enhance the category, which defends the state in legal disputes and conciliation initiatives.
The objective of the “Strengthen PGE” campaign is to seek better working conditions for lawyers who work in the State Attorney General’s Office.
Prosecutors have, among their duties, responsibility for controlling active state debt, combating tax evasion, carrying out administrative procedures and defending the state in court. In 2022, the category promoted the registration of 750,544 debts in active debt, totaling more than R$30 billion.
According to Apesp, there are prosecutors receiving almost 26 thousand demands in just 220 working days. One of the urgent demands of the category is to have a support career for administrative issues.
“Today, the prosecutor ends up performing a dual role: he is the state’s lawyer, but also assumes administrative functions”, says José Luiz Souza de Moraes, president of the association. Apesp also points out physical structural problems at PGE facilities.
