Rebeca Andrade, Flávia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Lorrane Oliveira and Júlia Soares won a place in the artistic gymnastics team competition for the next edition of the Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris (France) in 2024. The classification was achieved last Monday on Friday (2), during the World Cup in Antwerp (Belgium).

In the competition, the Brazilians scored 164,297 points, to guarantee fourth place in the qualifiers, behind only the United States, Great Britain and Canada.

“I am very satisfied with what we did. We didn’t drop the ball even when we reached the parallels. Everything worked. I’m very proud. I confess that, when I did my series in parallel, I wasn’t 100% satisfied, even though it was my favorite device. But what makes me most proud is that I didn’t give up. I could have come down from the parallel and thought a lot of things, but no. I fought to get to the end because our goal here was to get to Paris”, declared Rebeca Andrade.

The Brazilian team coach, Iryna Ilyashenko, highlighted the fighting spirit of the Brazilian gymnasts: “The girls fought until the last apparatus and we achieved our main objective. And now there’s more to come: we will have the team final, general individual and apparatus finals. Step by step, gymnastics in Brazil is conquering its space.”
