“I don’t know if she has a clear conscience, if she sleeps well at night. I forgive her, I still don’t know why she did all this, but I forgive her”, said the player Daniel Alves, in his first interview in prison in Barcelona, Spain. The text was published this Wednesday (21) by the Spanish daily La Vanguardia.

Alves has been in the Brians 2 penitentiary center for five months, after being accused by a 23-year-old of having raped her in the bathroom of a nightclub in the city, in the early hours of December 31st.

“I decided to give this interview, my first since I’ve been here, so that people know what I think. That they know what I experienced that morning in that bathroom. So far, a very frightening story of fear and terror has been published, which nothing it has nothing to do with what happened, nor with what I did,” he told journalist Mayka Navarro, last Monday afternoon (19).

On the night of December 31, the former player declared that he had “a very clear conscience”. He claimed to have proposed to the young woman to go to the bathroom. “What didn’t happen is that I forced that woman to do everything we did. We were dancing really close for a while. We didn’t kiss or anything. But it was evident from the movements and looks that there was an attraction.”

He denied having assaulted the girl. “She never told me to stop. She didn’t make any gestures of wanting to leave either. The door was open the whole time, she could have left because I was sitting on the toilet pretty much the entire time. The scratch on my knees is from her having remained on his knees while performing oral sex on me.”

Alves said he started going to the Sutton nightclub in 2008 and said he didn’t understand why the club’s employees acted the way they did. “It was a place where I went when I wanted to have a drink with my wife, with my friends. I know all the employees. None of them can say that in all these years I was involved in any incident. My behavior was always exemplary. And that’s why That’s why I still don’t understand how they acted that morning.”

He also said that he decided to speak “to apologize to the only person I have to apologize to, who is my wife, Joana Sanz. I already apologized to her personally here, in prison, but I must do it publicly, because the story is public, the offense is public and she deserves these public apologies”.
