Manaus (AM) – Wrestling athlete Sabrina Gama maintains her chances of a place in the Paris 2024 Olympics, even with the setback in the Pre-Olympic of the Americas, she will be able to qualify in the World Pre-Olympic tournament, which will take place in May, in Turkey. The athlete has the support of the Government of Amazonas, through the State Sports Grant and is part of the Amazonas project at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“The Government of Amazonas is proud to support athletes like Sabrina, who not only seek excellence in their sports, but also represent the strength and determination of our state. We are with Sabrina in this preparation phase for the World Pre-Olympics in Turkey, reaffirming our commitment to the development and encouragement of our athletes”,

said the Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure, Jorge Oliveira.

In the Pre-Olympic of the Americas competition, held in Acapulco, Mexico, Sabrina competed in the under-53kg category and started with two victories. She beat Peruvian Nathaly Herrera, 17-5, and Dominican Mariana Gonzalez, 7-0. In the semifinal, a fight that was worth a place in the Olympic Games, the Amazonian faced Venezuelan Betzabeth Arguello, losing the fight.

Now the athlete is targeting the World Pre-Olympics, which will be held in Istanbul, between May 9th and 12th, and will be the last chance to qualify for Paris 2024 in the sport. 3 places will be distributed per category, the first two places guarantee their presence, the third place will be contested by the athletes who lost the semi-finals.

“Unfortunately I couldn’t advance, I was stopped in the semi-final by the Venezuelan athlete, but I believe that everything is in God’s time and I will continue working to seek this Olympic place. It was an excellent pre-Olympics, I made small mistakes, but they can be fixed and I will go firm and strong to get to Paris”,

concluded Sabrina.
