Sheizi Ribeiro, 31, from Amapá, won four gold medals at the Paris Fall International Open Ibjjf Jiu Jitsu Championship, which took place in the French capital on November 18th. This was the first international event that the jiu-jitsu athlete has participated in and has already reached the top spot on the podium four times.
The native of Amapá won the gold medal in the GI master 1- blue- 74kg categories; Blue Absolute Gi (open weight); NoGi master category 1- blue- 71.5kg; and Absolute NoGi blue (open weight).
Sheizi states that the competition was a great learning experience, as she got to know another country and saw a ‘reality’ that she is not used to. Furthermore, she talks about the difficulty of leaving the country without sponsorship.
“It’s an incredible experience and learning experience. It wasn’t easy to get there, as I have no sponsors! This is already very difficult for a person who dreams big not to have help. Our battle has to come from ourselves if we want to win and get there! I am grateful to God firstly, secondly to my parents (mother, father and grandmother) who help me whenever they can and, of course, to my physiotherapist Djavan Amorim and the Master Life academy. Now it’s time to focus on 2024, when I already have a competition scheduled.”he said .
Fighting for more than four years, the native of Amapá says that it was through an experimental class with her daughter that she started practicing jiu-jitsu. “My daughter wanted to fight and I took her to a trial class. The master didn’t let me watch and asked me to keep my daughter company, and since then, I haven’t stopped”, he said.
Sheizi has already accumulated national, regional, state, municipal and, now, international titles. “This was my first championship outside the country, of many to come, if God allows it”, concluded.
