Alap approves project that guarantees support for atypical parenting – News of Brazil

This Tuesday, 20th, the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap) approved Bill No. 0305/23, authored by deputy Rodolfo Vale (PC do B). The initiative establishes the State Policy to Support Atypical Parenting (Peapa) in the state public health network, ensuring comprehensive and humanized psychological support for mothers, fathers and/or legal guardians of children with atypical development due to disabilities.
Peapa’s objective, as outlined in the project, is to provide comprehensive psychological assistance and support to mothers, fathers and/or legal guardians of children with atypical development patterns, resulting from mental, sensory, intellectual or physical disabilities. Now, the project goes to the State Executive for analysis, which will have the prerogative to sanction or veto the initiative that aims to support parents of children with disabilities or rare syndromes.
“The measure means more dignified and humane assistance, expanded health care that affects not only people with disabilities, but also the biopsychosocial and family context in which they are inserted. Considering this reality present in today’s society, active action by the Public Power is required”highlighted deputy Rodolfo Vale.
According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), More than 17.3 million people, which represents 8.4% of the Brazilian population over two years of age, have some type of disability. The project received a favorable opinion with amendment from the Constitution, Justice and Writing Committee (CCJ), with deputy Diogo Senior as rapporteur, in addition to passing through the Committee on Children, Adolescents and Social Assistance (CCA).
In the same session, several requests were approved, covering areas such as health, education and public safety. Highlight is Request 0082/2024, authored by deputy Hildegard Gurgel, which requests the State Department of Health to intensify campaigns to combat suicide and self-mutilation among young people and adolescents in the state of Amapá.
