Pivot of the ‘diplomatic dwarf’ crisis criticizes Lula’s speech – 02/21/2024 – Panel
[ad_1]
Pivot of a diplomatic crisis ten years ago, when he called Brazil a “diplomatic dwarf”, former spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yigal Palmor says that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s speech comparing Israel’s attack in Gaza to the Holocaust is “deplorable”.
“It is a deplorable demonstration, and I think the Israeli government’s response speaks for itself,” Palmor said in a message sent to the Panel.
In 2014, the diplomat responded to a note from Itamaraty condemning deaths caused by Israel’s offensive against Gaza.
At the time, he also called Brazil’s position irrelevant and mocked the country for losing 7-1 to Germany in that year’s World Cup.
Currently, Palmor is a director at the Jewish Agency for Israel, an institution that promotes the immigration of Jews to the country.
