Zanin suspends DF PM contest for limiting women’s participation

The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Cristiano Zanin suspended this Friday (1st) the contest of the Military Police of the Federal District. The injunction was granted in an action filed by the PT that questions a DF law that limits the participation of women in the institution’s staff to 10%.

In the decision, the minister considered that “the percentage of 10% reserved for female candidates seems to confront the constitutional dictates regarding gender equality, one of the fundamental objectives of the Federative Republic of Brazil being the promotion of the good of all, without prejudice of origin, race, sex, color, age and any other forms of discrimination”.

The PT argued that the rule of District Law 9.713/1998 establishes discriminatory and misogynistic criteria for the entry and composition of the military police career in the DF, informed the Court, in a note. The party asked the STF “to grant an injunction to suspend the norm, so that competitions and public notices for the career obey the isonomy criteria intended in the action”.

“In the present case, it is stated in the initial that, in addition to the reduced percentage of 10% of vacancies allocated to female candidates, the cut-off score initially provided for in the public notice of the competition for classification had to be reduced in order to make it possible to fill all the vacancies. vacancies for male candidates, allowing them to enter the public service with grades much lower than those obtained by candidates of the opposite sex, in order to reveal, in summary analysis, a true affront to the principle of equality”, quoted the minister.

This Friday, the PT presented a petition requesting the suspension of the contest. With that, the official disclosure of the result of the objective test, scheduled for next Monday (4), was suspended until the analysis of the injunction by the Court. No date has yet been set for a new review of the case.

“Therefore, I grant a precautionary measure, ad referendum, to suspend the ongoing contest for the appointment of positions in the Military Police of the Federal District Combatants (QPPMC) until the analysis of the request for preliminary injunction formulated in initial, including the disclosure of results, provisional or final, and the call for new phases of the competition”, wrote Zanin.
