Zambelli is prohibited from speaking at an anti-abortion rally – 10/12/2023 – Panel

Federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) was banned from getting on the sound truck of the Nas Ruas movement, which she created, during a demonstration against abortion on Avenida Paulista this Thursday (12).

She claims that she went close to the vehicle to speak, as she has done in events of this type for years, when a security guard prohibited her passage. At that moment, the current leader of the movement, state deputy Tomé Abduch (Republicans), was in the truck.

Carla was accompanied by her brother, state deputy Bruno Zambelli (PL), who was also denied access.

“I always get on the truck, this time they didn’t leave it without explaining. You have to ask Tomé,” she said. When contacted, the state deputy, who is deputy leader of the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) government in the Legislative Assembly, did not want to comment.

People close to the organization of the event said that one of the factors that led to the ban was the fact that Zambelli was the target of an investigation at the Federal Supreme Court.

On social media, several people criticized the deputy’s absence. Allies of the parliamentarian pointed out the ingratitude of Abduch, who succeeded her at the head of the movement.

Zambelli projected herself politically in Nas Ruas, a group she founded and led between 2011 and 2018, when she was elected to Congress.

Last year she was re-elected as one of the vote record holders, but came under criticism from Bolsonar supporters after the episode in which she chased a black man with a gun in hand on a street in São Paulo on the eve of the second round of the election. Some allies of the former president blame her for the narrow defeat to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

According to her, the harassment of people in the act shows that her popularity continues to rise.

“The most important thing for me is to be on good terms with the people, and everyone there wanted to take a photo with me. I stood in the rain praying with people,” said the deputy.

The demonstration had low attendance, bringing together a few hundred people. Organizers blamed rain and a surprise demonstration by subway workers.
