Mario Jorge Lobo Zagallo will be mourned this Sunday (7) at the headquarters of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio de Janeiro. The wake will begin at 9:30 am and will be open to the public.
The world football icon died late Friday night (5), aged 92. He had been admitted to Barra D’Or hospital since December 26th. According to the medical unit, Zagallo died of multiple organ failure.
After the wake, Velho Lobo will be buried in the São João Batista cemetery, in Botafogo, in the south of Rio. The burial is scheduled for 4pm.
The CBF decreed seven days of mourning and a minute of silence in all games in the first round of the Copa do Nordeste qualifiers, which begins this Saturday.
On its website, the entity that controls national football published a long text about the trajectory of one of the most important names in the history of the Brazilian team — he participated in four of the five World Cups won by Brazil.
