Youngest deputy in the country promises conservative agenda – 02/23/2023 – Politics

With 21 years and 1 day, the youngest deputy in the country takes office this Thursday (23) in the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais.

Chiara Biondini (PP) promises to defend conservative guidelines, such as maintaining the prohibition of abortion and the criminalization of drugs and the rejection of gender identity.

“[Ser uma jovem conservadora] it’s not a contradiction. It’s what I believe and it’s what’s part of my life,” she tells Sheet.

“There are things we can innovate, but there are others that are immutable, such as the prohibition of abortion, drugs and gender ideology”, adds the youngest deputy in the history of Minas Gerais.

Chiara received over 34,000 votes in last year’s election; she went to 73th elected with the most votes in Minas – the Minas Gerais Assembly has 77 parliamentarians.

The deputy’s support base comes from her father, Eros Biondini (PL), a federal deputy for the state for 12 years and leader of a foundation that re-socializes drug addicts through religion in Belo Horizonte.

Eros is linked to the Catholic Church and is also a gospel singer. During the elections, incidentally, father and daughter received support from Tony Allysson, a gospel musician with more than 1 million followers on Instagram and almost the same amount of subscribers on his YouTube channel.

At the end of August, for example, Chiara published a video on her Instagram account during a religious celebration, where Tony asks the faithful, with arms raised, to pray for the candidate and the Biondini family. “She is taking on a new mission before God,” says the singer.

Shortly after the election results, Tony congratulated Chiara and Eros in a live on the social network – the father was re-elected with 78,000 votes, less than half of what he received in 2018.

In January, on the same day that a Bolsonarist crowd invaded Congress, the Planalto Palace and the STF, Eros published on his social network a photo of the Congress full of protesters and wrote “A Casa do Povo!”. He deleted the post hours later.

“My father did not support the invasion of Congress; when he made the posts, nothing serious had yet happened. As soon as we saw the destruction, which we are totally against, he deleted it. I also do not agree with vandalism; we agree with peaceful demonstrations “, says Chiara.

It was Alexandre de Moraes, president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) and also minister of the STF, who ensured that Chiara took office this Thursday.

At the end of January, the minister denied a request for an injunction filed by Chiara’s deputy, who alleged that the elected deputy could not take office on 1th February, as on that date she would have been 20 years old – a state deputy must be 21 years old or older. At the time, Moraes determined that Chiara would be sworn in after the 22nd, when she would reach the minimum age.

Now, in the Assembly, the youngest deputy in the country says her main flags are youth and entrepreneurship. Shortly before being elected, she was studying business administration at Unicamp, but now she intends to transfer the course to Belo Horizonte.

At least at the beginning of her term, Chiara will be part of the government’s bench. On the last 10th, she published a video on her Instagram alongside the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo). “Minas Gerais is very proud of having the youngest parliamentarian in Brazil”, says the governor.
