Profissão Repórter this Tuesday (14) embarked on the journey of candidates who took the National High School Exam and dream of college. Watch in full. See the highlights of Profissão Repórter From different parts of Brazil, the students went on foot, by bus, and even by boat to the National High School Exam (Enem) exam site. Many balance between work and school, but don’t give up studying. Profissão Repórter this Tuesday (14) embarked on the journey of students who dream of college. In Itapecerica da Serra, Greater São Paulo, reporter Danielle Zampollo recorded a day in the routine of student Eduardo Boneso, aged 21, who combines his work as a waiter in the South Zone of SP with his studies at a popular course. He dreams of becoming an architect. Working until 4am at work on the day of the exam, the student ended his working day and, after two hours on public transport, arrived home at dawn. Eduardo Boneso, 21 years old, took 4 buses to get to the Enem location “I’m tired, very tired, but I’m chasing my dream”, he revealed. Eduardo was able to rest for just three hours before the exam. “Sometimes he sleeps two hours a night or not even that. There are days when he leaves the house upside down,” said Eduardo’s mother. “We have to hold on, there’s not much we can do,” said Eduardo. The waiter’s mother studied, but had to stop enrolling due to lack of money. “I couldn’t continue. Lack of resources, I have left my dream of continuing to study on hold for now,” said Eduardo’s mother. Eduardo Boneso, 21 years old, combines work with studies. The young man takes three buses to get to work in the South Zone of São Paulo. In the meantime, he takes the opportunity to sleep. “I feel helpless, I really wanted to be at home resting. (…) It’s difficult to balance work and study, but we have to study to change our reality”, added Eduardo. Eduardo Boneso, 21 years old, works as a waiter. Reproduction/Profession Reporter The National High School Examination is currently the main way for low-income young people to enter a university, but the difficulties are still many. First in the family Just like Eduardo, student Adria Letícia Gomes also faced a long journey to reach the Enem application site. The young woman’s dream is to study Law. Reporter Mayara Teixeira and film reporter Eduardo De Paula accompanied Adria on this journey to enter college. The family lives on a stream in Baixo Acará, a region close to Belém where the exam takes place. Boat, walk, bus, motorbike and another walk are part of the student’s routine. To get to her class, Adria Letícia takes a boat, motorbike, bus and even walks. She will be the first in her family to have higher education. Her mother, Adriana Amara, stopped studying when she became pregnant and only recently, inspired by her daughter, did she return to school. She is about to finish high school and in the future she wants to be a nursing technician, maybe even take the Enem. “She kept saying: ‘The field of medicine is so beautiful, nursing’. I said: ‘Why don’t you try? She doesn’t finish her high school and take an Enem,’” said Adria. Adria Letícia Gomes intends to study Law. Reproduction/Profession Reporter The family’s income comes from açaí production. According to Adria’s stepfather, the objective is to promote education for the two girls. “I didn’t have the opportunity she’s having now. We are supporting her to make her dream come true,” he said. Popular courses Adria and Eduardo have one more thing in common: they both attended popular courses to improve their performance on Enem and get a place at university. The young woman from Acará (PA) attended classes at Emancipa, a network of popular courses with units throughout Brazil. In Belém alone there are nine, with more than 150 volunteers, who teach classes. Teachers from Rede Emancipa hold a class in Pará. Reproduction/Profession Reporter Eduardo is a student of the popular course at Rede Ubunto, which promoted moments of relaxation for students on the eve of the exam. “The university entrance exam year is very difficult for our young people. It’s a year of social pressure, from the family. You need those moments of decompression. We need them to have contact with greenery”, said Ana Carolina Carvalho, coordinator of the Ubuntu Network. “Two days before the test you don’t know if you study, if you relax, if you drink water, if you try to learn what you haven’t learned all year”, joked Ana Luísa de Lima, student. Reproduction/Profession Reporter Most of the Ubunto Network students study to be the first in their families to attend university. “My father didn’t finish school, he stayed in elementary school,” said Rebeca Silva, administrative assistant. The Ubunto Network course is free and currently serves 200 young people from the outskirts of São Paulo. Enem more accessible and focused on everyday life Profissão Repórter interviewed educators who are in favor of a National Exam that is not excessively difficult. This is the case of Giuseppe Nobilioni, a mathematics teacher for 56 years. Teachers ask for a more accessible Enem focused on everyday life “A test with 50 easy questions scores well. Those who are good do it more quickly, make fewer mistakes, and are less likely to make a mistake. A difficult question levels out, most get it wrong,” he said. Biology teachers praised the application of the questions in people’s daily lives. “They talk about accumulated fat coming from, for example, milk. About male and female hormones, anemia caused by a lack of iron”, said Luiz Carlos Bellinello. See the full report of Profissão Repórter: Edition of 11/14/2023 Check out the latest reports:
