Wilson seeks partnership for AM educational projects with universities and companies in London

Governor Wilson Lima presented, this Wednesday (14), in London (English capital), projects of the Government of Amazonas focused on education, such as the Escola da Floresta, to Lord Dr. Michael Hastings, president of the Board of Trustees of SOAS University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London) and representatives of the company Pearson, which operates with educational services and products, including in Brazil.

Wilson Lima also met with directors from Bloomberg, a technology, data and media company for the financial market. The governor highlighted that increasing investments in education is the way to promote behavioral changes necessary to combat climate change, preserving the environment and ensuring sustainability, as envisaged by the Escola da Floresta project, which was well received by representatives of institutions with which the governor met.

“Nothing is more important than us starting to educate these children to face the world we live in, in which the issue of sustainability, preservation and environmental issues are not just a government plan or a company project, but It has to be part of our daily lives”,

highlighted Wilson Lima.

“So, we have invested a lot in this issue of education. Escola da Floresta is a pilot project that brings, in addition to the normal content, the issue of sustainability inserted into its curriculum”,

Partnership with UEA and other projects

In the meeting with Lord Dr. Michael Hasting, president of the SOAS Board of Trustees, Wilson Lima talked about the possibility of partnerships with the State University of Amazonas (UEA), in addition to investing in other education projects in the state.

In the meeting with representatives from Pearson, a global leader in offering solutions, services and products in the area of ​​education for students, educational institutions, companies, governments and other partners, Wilson Lima presented to the directors Ana Julia Fernandes, Marianne Lewis and Frederic Bardy all the main education projects in the state, including Jovem Bilíngue, and received positive signals to move forward in partnerships with the company.

At the meeting with Bloomberg, the governor of Amazonas was received by the CEO, Laura Hickey OBE (acronym for Order of the British Empire), and by Jon Moore, CEO of BNEF. He discussed education and environmental projects, with the Amazonas 2030 program, which foresees zero net deforestation in the state through the application of resources, obtained from the sale of carbon credits, in initiatives for sustainable development.

The meeting at Bloomberg was attended by company representatives in the areas of philanthropy; the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ); and BloombergNEF (New Energy Financing), in addition to the company’s executive special envoy to the UN and COP.

In the opinion of the governor of Amazonas, who was accompanied by the state secretary of the Environment, Eduardo Taveira, the presentation of these projects aims to publicize initiatives and establish partnerships to encourage and promote sustainability and socio-environmental actions that contribute to the preservation of the forest.

“All these conversations are very important for us to understand which paths we will follow to achieve the much desired sustainable development”,

With approximately R$ 5 million in investments, the first unit of Escola da Floresta is already 70% completed in the Uatumã Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS), in São Sebastião do Uatumã (247 kilometers from Manaus) and should be delivered in the first half of 2024.

The forest schools were designed to have a low environmental impact and will have a Sewage Treatment Plant (ETE); solar energy capture panels; rainwater collection system; use of wood from sustainable forest management; natural ventilation system; and broad accessibility. It also has classrooms, reading, multipurpose and teachers’ rooms, a cafeteria, accommodation for educators and students, a robotics laboratory (Maker Space), among other spaces.

In addition to the forest school, Wilson Lima also presented improvements in education based on technology and preparation for the job market, which are being developed by the Government of Amazonas, such as the provision of bilingual education and robotics laboratories (Maker Space) and delivery of robotics kits to students in the state education network.

The Government of Amazonas has supported the provision of bilingual education, with ten educational units offering the modality and the Jovem Bilíngue project to fund English language scholarships, serving almost 7,500 students this year.

With the start of the 2024 school year in the state network, 31 schools now have Maker Spaces, which added to the 51 already inaugurated, reach 83 rooms delivered in public schools, benefiting approximately 54 thousand students across the state. There are 40 Maker Spaces in the capital and 43 in the interior. The goal is to reach 100 by 2026.

This year, Governor Wilson Lima also launched the Edutech project. With 36 thousand robotics kits purchased, Edutech will benefit 9th year students in the state education network, which currently has 32 thousand students in this school stage. The Edutech kit consists of textbooks on block programming and automation and technological items such as the Arduíno UNO board, LEDs, cables, sensors and others; in addition to an adaptive teaching platform, with games and educational challenges.
