Wilson Lima signs work order to begin work on the Casa da Mulher Brasileira

Manaus (AM) – Governor Wilson Lima signed, this Friday (8), International Women’s Day, the service order for the beginning of works on the Casa da Mulher Brasileira, which provides humanized care for women, bringing together, in the same space, specialized services to combat of the most diverse types of violence against them.

With an investment of R$10 million, Governor Wilson Lima also launched notice no. 001/2024 of the Social Promotion and Poverty Eradication Fund (FPS), aimed at promoting social projects developed by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the capital and interior of Amazonas.

“The Women’s House is a space, basically, to welcome women who are victims of violence and give them an opportunity or the possibility of freeing themselves from repressive actions and violence. This is one of the objectives of this house”,

Tendered through the State Secretariat of Justice, Human Rights and Citizenship (Sejusc), the work on the Casa da Mulher Brasileira is the result of a partnership between the Government of Amazonas and the Federal Government. The investment will be R$ 17.5 million, between work and equipment, with R$ 10 million from the Federal Bench Amendment and R$ 7.5 million from the State.

In April last year, fulfilling a campaign commitment, Governor Wilson Lima announced the continuity of the project by authorizing the state contribution during a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Women, Cida Gonçalves.

Participating in the ceremony, held at the Amazonas Government headquarters, were First Lady Taiana Lima; 11 secretaries of State; state deputies Alessandra Campelo and Débora Menezes; councilor Yomara Lins; judge of the Amazonas Court of Justice, Mirza Telma de Oliveira; the deputy general public defender, Karoline Santos; and the General Ombudsman of the Public Ministry of Amazonas, Jussara Podeus.

Works at the Women’s House

In Manaus, the chosen land is on Rua Major Isidoro, Petrópolis neighborhood, south zone of the capital. The negotiations for the implementation of the Women’s House will continue to be coordinated by Sejusc, with the support and supervision of the State Secretariat for Infrastructure (Seinfra).

“Today, the assaulted woman makes a complaint, goes to the police station, she has to go to the IML (Legal Medical Institute), go to the Public Defender’s Office, and this will all be in one place. There she will be welcomed and the State Government already has a halfway house, a shelter for these women”,

stated the secretary of Sejusc, Jussara Pedrosa.

After the State’s counterpart, in April, the notice was published in July and, in December, the winning company of the contest was approved. The work on the building alone is budgeted at R$12.4 million.

From signature, the work must be started within 15 days by the company winning the competition. The initial deadline for delivery of the building is 12 months. The land is approximately 10 thousand m² and the built area will be just over 4 thousand m², with 84 rooms and ample parking.

Brazilian Women’s House

The Casa da Mulher Brasileira is one of the axes of the Programa Mulher Viver sem Violência, of the Ministry of Women, resumed at the beginning of 2023. Currently, there are eight units in the country in: Campo Grande/MS, Fortaleza/CE, Ceilândia/DF, Curitiba /PR, São Luís/MA, Boa Vista/RR, São Paulo/SP and Salvador/BA.

Considered an innovation in humanized care for women, Casa da Mulher integrates specialized services such as: reception and screening; psychosocial support; police station; Court; Public Prosecutor’s Office, Public Defender’s Office; promotion of economic autonomy; childcare – toy library; transit accommodation and transport hub.

Notice for social sector

The FPS public call will serve institutions that develop public policies in the segments of women, people with disabilities, children and adolescents, the elderly, and social and productive inclusion. Each proposal and work plan may receive up to R$150,000 to carry out the activity.

“These projects must necessarily be focused on policies for women, children, the elderly, job and income generation. These institutions must prove, both through documentation and through the location, where the institutions are located, they must have proof that they actually carry out work for the community”,

highlighted the executive secretary of the FPS, Kathelen Braz.

The State Government’s resources may be used to purchase permanent and consumable materials; remuneration of the team responsible for executing the work plan; provision of specialized services from third parties; adaptation and physical space service; and actions to combat poverty and generate work and income.

“As we serve women undergoing cancer treatment, we offer shelter, food, psycho-social and nutritional care. So these resources are important for the maintenance of the institution”, stated Gláucia Souza, Social Worker at Lar das Marias.

CSOs interested in participating in the notice must send their proposals and work plans, by April 8th, through the FPS Virtual Protocol.
