Governor Wilson Lima held, on Friday (15), the official opening of the event season of the 57th Parintins Festival, which this year takes place on the 28th, 29th and 30th of June. In a ceremony at Teatro Amazonas, in the center of Manaus, with a presentation of the bois-bumbás Caprichoso and Garantido and official items, Wilson Lima highlighted the economic and cultural importance that the festival has for the state.

The State’s operation during the festival alone should generate 2,400 direct jobs and 24,000 indirect jobs at the festival with construction work, cleaning and other services. Furthermore, the two oxen together generate around 5 thousand direct jobs. For this year, the expectation of attendance on the island is around 120 thousand visitors and the projected turnover in the local economy is to exceed R$150 million, exceeding the estimate for 2023, which was R$146.7 million.

“The Parintins festival is part of this culture, it is part of the Parintin people, it is exciting, people reserve the festival period to dedicate themselves to their ox. But this party has the function of generating jobs, generating income, providing opportunities for people, especially for those who live in the city of Parintins”, highlighted Governor Wilson Lima.

For the presidents of the oxen, since 2019, the current Government of Amazonas has taken the festival to another level by once again attracting visitors from other states and countries to the party.

“The governor has a very special affection for Parintins, he understands that when you invest in culture, you invest in the city’s economy,” highlighted the president of Caprichoso, Rossy Amoedo. “We have to recognize the importance of the government’s contribution to the logistics of the festival, in the allocation of support”, stated the president of Garantido, Fred Góes.

Investments

The Amazonas Government’s investment in the festival, in 2024, will be R$8 million, R$4 million for each bumbá, in addition to private sponsorship of the oxen, which should reach R$15 million. Coca-Cola alone will transfer R$2.5 million in 2024, R$1.25 million for each ox.

“For Coca-Cola, which is committed to the state of Amazonas, for us it is a great pride, a satisfaction to see each day that passes, each year that passes, the festival surpasses itself”, said the director of government affairs at Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola in Brazil, Victor Bica.

Cultural roots

At the ceremony, the festival’s official brand was presented, created from the winning art of the Mural Bumbódromo 2024 competition. The competition was open exclusively to artists from Parintin and the artistic-visual work “Patrimônio em Festa”, by Pito Silva, was the chosen to compose the new mural and serves as the basis for creating the visual identity of the 57th Parintins Festival.

Pito Silva is one of the artists working in the visual arts segment and gained notoriety last year, with the creation of the mural “Brasil Futuro, Ancestral”, coloring the Bumbódromo, at the entrance to Avenida Paraíba, where the bumbás gather to enter the arena.

The ceremony was attended by authorities such as federal and state deputies, including the president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), Roberto Cidade, as well as councilors from Manaus and Parintins.

“Last year we broke the attendance record in Parintins, there were more than 800 air operations carried out there at the airport and this year we will have more movement based on this expectation that is being generated around the festival”, explained the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, Marcos Apolo Muniz.

The president of the Amazonas State Tourism Company (Amazonastur), Ian Ribeiro highlighted the growing interest around the festival. “The festival has been growing a lot, this projection. More and more travel agencies from abroad are looking to get to know Amazonas, to get to know the Parintins festival”.
