The meeting in Brasilia precedes the meeting of the Amazonian governor and parliamentarians with the Minister of Finance

Brasilia DF) – Governor Wilson Lima met, this Tuesday (4th), in Brasilia, the federal bench of Amazonas to align the state’s position regarding tax reform and to discuss points that the Amazonian representatives will take to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, in meeting scheduled for this Wednesday (5).

For the governor, there are three fundamental points to be taken to Minister Haddad: maintain incentives for companies in the Industrial Pole of Manaus; ensure the competitiveness of the Manaus Free Trade Zone, with the prospect of having other factories set up in the Industrial District with strategic products for the Amazon; and the impact of tax reform on state revenue.

“The conversation we had made it very clear that everyone is aligned with the same purpose, regardless of who is from party A, who is from party B, regardless of who may follow any political line. When we talk about the Manaus Free Trade Zone, this is the moment when all political agents unite because our survival depends on it, the survival of the people of Amazonas depends on the Free Trade Zone”,

declared Wilson Lima.

Also according to the governor, state deputies, senators and technicians are finalizing a text together to be delivered to the Ministry of Finance. In addition, servants of the State Department of Finance (Sefaz) will be in Brasilia this week at the disposal of the Working Group of Amazonas to provide the necessary subsidies for the defense of the state’s economy, respecting the country’s interests.

“The Manaus Free Trade Zone is responsible for the economy of our state and we cannot do without this economic model. It’s time for Brazil to start recognizing people from the Amazon and those who live in the Amazon as Brazilians who live in any other region of Brazil. I think this is a great opportunity for the Federal Government to do this”,

assessed Wilson Lima, warning that if the tax reform weakens the Free Zone, the forest will be at greater risk of being devastated.

Work group

Also participating were the head of Sefaz, Alex Del Giglio; the Executive Secretary of Revenue, Dario Paim; and the coordinator of the Strategic Tax Affairs Committee (Cate), Nivaldo Mendonça, and technicians from the agency.
